Experimentation Two

Metamorphosis Photography : Part One

Examples and Analysis

As a second experiment I decided to do some metamorphosis, these though were based on the metamorphisis of human and animals. As you can see from the image to the left there is a animal skull placed infront of a humans head, in this case a girls head.

These images are abstract and this can be seen through the emphasizes on formal elements rather than specific, objects.

These photos also consist of diferent angle and the use of different colour saturations although those would be done in the after math editing processes.

In the image you can see to the left you can also see the contrast between lights and darks but aldo the composition of the image is very well thought out and directly focused on the main aspects of the image, in this case that'll be the skull and the womans body.

In my photos I'm also going to use a female model and different skulls, and attempt to get a specific look like the photos you can see to the left. I will be using selected lighting and it'll be done in a studio. These photos will also be edited in photoshop after to look like the professional ones you see to the left.

My Photography - Creation Process

To the left are screenshots which show the processes in which I worked in to produce my final images. These do not emulate the style above but to run along side it somewhat due to the fact I have used the same processes and the same effects that the originals have used.

  1. To start with I began by setting up my studio and arranging the lights in the appropriate places, I then started to take pictures of my female model with different skulls infront of her face, but also as a twist I took pictures which didn't fully cover her face. I did this to incorperate my own style in this second experiment so that I didn't fully emulate the original style, but just uplift style aspects and processes done in the originals.

  2. Once all the pictrues had been taken I moved them from my SD card onto my laptop and sorted though each image looking for good qualities and back qualities in each image.
The images which had the most good qualities were put into a different folder on my laptop called refinements, I did this so it would be easier to pick which photos I wanted to edit into final pieces.

  3. The images were then chosen and put into photoshop to be edited. Adding effects layers and blending modes I lightened some parts of the image and darkened some other parts adding contrast where I thought it needed to be.
As you can see from the screenshot to the left you can see the editing I did on the eyes of my model, this was draw on the image in Photoshop and was done specific to make her eyes look more prominant, not only that but it helps the audiences eye draw towards the main parts of the image.

  4. Finally I finished up changing the exposure levels and the different effect I'd added onto the image before saving them as a JPG image onto my laptop and uploading them to this website.
