Double Exposure

Below shows the process in which I followed to create my individulized task, which was in fact double exposure.

Creation Process

As a starting process for creating my double exposure pictures, I took a variety of images including a number of models and scenery. After this was complete I put some of the images into photoshop and started to edit them. As you can see, to the left is the original image I took. My aim was to get a silhouette type feel, but with still some features showing, in this instance it was facial features.

Secondly I used the place button on photoshop to overlay a secondary image onto of my model. In this case it was picture of the ocean and some cliffside. Once the image was in the correct place I decided to change the colour filter on the image and change it so that it was black and white instead of colour.

Upon changing the colour of the image, I then decided to add levels and also change the vibrancy on photos. I also created a layer above the original image and added some shading. This allowed the ocean scenery to show through the bottom of the image more and contrast the remaining image.

Experiments and Evaluation

Due to the fact that some of these photos didn't really work the way I had planned I took helpful criticism from my teacher and classmates before doing out to retake some of these images. Some of the criticisms I were given by my classmates were to improve the poses in which my models were placed when the photos were taken. From this I decided to take another shoot with a variety of different models, and also have my models pose in different ways.

From this I also took many more landscape photographs to overlay in photoshop.

Improvements, Development and Final Pieces.

For these images I followed the advice of my classmates and teacher and got my model to pose in a variety of positions. This helped greatly in adding variety throughout the images, and made it easier to choose two images to edit for a final design. As for the background images I overlayed in photoshop I took various photos of a deer skull, flowers and also of vicious waves hitting the rocks on a beach. Due to traveling to Spain shortly various to doing the models photo shoot I gathered some of the images I took along the coast and arranged them over the top of my model before being able to find a match. In the second picture you can see the effect of waves across his body and face, this is in fact the effect given when waves hit the rocks and cliffs along the coast.
